Capsule was originally commissioned in 2018 by The Dance Centre as a pop up performance, where thirteen dancers moved along three flights of stairs. It was a site-specific contemporary dance piece performed by professional artists. This iteration for Culture Days is a continuation of the original research. It is a performance of improvisation tasks and choreography made up of familiar and abstract gestures and movement, influenced by the dancer’s chemistry and personal movement contributions. This is a public showing after a very short process, and we hope to continue developing this work after the Culture Days showing.
This piece is created by Jenna Berlyn in collaboration with Andrea Cownden, Samantha Krystal, Anya Saugstad and Shay Saver.

Jenna Berlyn is a contemporary dance artist based in Vancouver, B.C. She is a graduate of Modus Operandi Contemporary Dance Program under the artistic direction of Tiffany Tregarthen and David Raymond, where her final year was completed on scholarship from the BC Arts Council. Through MO, Jenna had the pleasure of performing works by many local choreographers. She has performed works independently by Paras Terezakis/Kinesis Dance, Daisy Thompson, Jennifer Mcleish-Lewis, Caldonia Walton and Still Moon Arts Society. As well as interpreting the works of others, Jenna excitedly pursues her own choreographic interests through performance and film. She is a 2019 commissioned artist with Festival of Recorded Movement, where her dance and animation film, Trace, Tread, will premiere in September 2019.
