About

Welcome to Art of the Mushroom!

Step into a world where mushrooms take the spotlight. Art of the Mushroom is a two-day celebration of creativity, clay, and community hosted by CAHEP (Community Arts & Heritage Education Project) in partnership with The Hive, the City of Thunder Bay, and Ontario Culture Days.

Together we’ll explore the beauty, mystery, and inspiration of mushrooms through art, science, and hands-on fun. Families, friends, and community members of all ages are welcome.

What’s happening:

1. Glaze Your Own Clay Mushroom – Earlier this month, participants created clay mushrooms. Now it’s time to bring them to life with colour.

2. Art Show – Explore a gallery of mushroom-inspired works by CAHEP artists and leave with a new appreciation for these fascinating forest friends.

3. Interactive Activities – Join in creative, mushroom-themed art stations for all ages.

4. Selfie Station – Capture your mushroom moment and share it with the community.

(Saturday: The Mushroom Art Challenge)

A family-friendly creative adventure where participants choose their own path:

1. Silly Shrooms – Add googly eyes, disco hats, and the wackiest designs you can dream up.

2. Mushroom Myth-Makers – Turn your mushroom into a character and tell its one-sentence story.

3. Mycelium Masterpiece – Collaborate with other families to build one giant community artwork that grows like a mushroom network.

Every creation will be celebrated in a mini-gallery showcase featuring the hashtag #artofthemushroom. This is not a competition – it’s about imagination, teamwork, and joy.

CAHEP

CAHEP’s mandate is to develop and implement inclusive, culturally diverse, high-quality arts and heritage intergenerational programming for Thunder Bayites of all ages, most especially those from marginalized backgrounds. We increase the public’s understanding and appreciation of and for the arts by planning and delivering arts-education projects — led by professional contracted, freelance artists — to participants from all walks of life and showcase the resulting work. We travel to various locales to deliver programming, reducing our rental costs and thus increasing our budget for programming activity, and making sure we are able to meet more people where they are at. CAHEP also provides financial support and professional development (PD) opportunities for local artists who range in age from 16-70.
