About

Come out to the UBC Arts and Culture District to celebrate BC Culture Days.

We are offering 2 diverse events:

On September 27th come out to the Arts and Culture District at UBC to celebrate Culture Days in British Columbia. The Audain Art Centre AHVA art Gallery will be filled with food, musicians, comedians, spoken word poets, and artists for a spectacular open mic event. Sign up to perform or take it all in as an audience member, and be sure to check out the exhibition, featuring the work of UBC visual art alumni and curated by UBC faculty members.

This event is made to bring together the diverse artists and arts advocates of UBC, and our broader community members. In addition to this, we will be launching our data-base of UBC Artsists and Artist Advocates curated through UBC Arts Culture and UBC's AMS.

We will be offering a tour of the exhibition during the evening. All are welcome to take part in the UBC Arts and Culture District celebration of Culture Days!

Timeline:

6-7PM - UBC Arts Advocate Mixer

7PM - Launch of Database and discussion around how to build a stronger unified artistic community on campus

7:15PM- Open Mic Begins

8:30 PM- Tour of the Art Gallery

9PM - Wrap up!

----------------------------------------------------------

Then on September 28th and 29th, experience a slice of UBC's provocative and eclectic Outdoor Art collection with our gallery insiders. To join the tour, meet at 12:50pm the Belkin Art Gallery's Information Desk on either day.

We'll start at the Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery and see contemporary works of art by artists Marianne Nicolson (Canadian, Scottish, Dzawada̱’enux̱w First Nation descent), , Edgar Heap of Birds (Cheyenne and Arapaho descent) and others.

Your next stop is the Museum of Anthropology. You will be taken outside to the Museum grounds to see Arthur Erickson's inspirational architecture. Visitors will be introduced to the contemporary house posts by Musqueam artist Susan Point, and poles by artists Bill Reid, Jim Hart, Mungo Martin and others, as well as visit inside the Haida House.

Wear comfortable shoes and in case of rain, bring your umbrellas!
