Parks Canada invites you to experience stories from the fur trade with interactive activities, and special guest performances by members of Li Keur, Manitoba Opera's upcoming show! At The Forks National Historic Site. The site lies within Treaty No. 1 territory, part of the traditional lands of many First Nations, and is the homeland of the Red River Métis. An important part of the fur trade, The Forks has been a meeting place for more than 6,000 years.

Parks Canada interpreters will bring to life and celebrate the historic practices and stories of First Nations, Métis peoples, and European settlers. Artists with the Manitoba Opera will enhance the ambiance by performing pieces from the new opera Li Keur, which translates to “the heart” in Michif. The forthcoming Métis-created opera will explore Métis stories and perspectives inspired from the diaries of Louis Riel redefining operatic form through a Métis worldview of story.

Parcs Canada vous invite à découvrir les aventures de la traite des fourrures au moyen d’activités interactives et de prestations d’artistes invités de Li Keur, le prochain spectacle de l’Opéra du Manitoba! Au lieu historique national de La Fourche. Le lieu historique se trouve sur le territoire du Traité n° 1, qui fait partie des terres traditionnelles de nombreuses Premières Nations, et constitue la patrie des Métis de la rivière Rouge. La Fourche, qui a joué un rôle important dans la traite des fourrures, sert de lieu de rencontre depuis plus de 6 000 ans.

Les interprètes de Parcs Canada feront revivre les pratiques et anecdotes historiques des Premières Nations, des Métis et des colons européens. Des artistes de l’Opéra du Manitoba rehausseront l’ambiance en interprétant des morceaux du nouvel opéra Li Keur, qui se traduit par « le cœur » en michif. Cet opéra créé par des Métis explorera les récits de Métis inspirés des journaux intimes de Louis Riel, et réinventera sa forme en l’adaptant à la vision métisse du monde.

Manitoba Opera was established in 1969 by Founding President Justice Kerr Twaddle and a group of individuals dedicated to presenting the great works of opera to Manitoban audiences. Its aim is to change people's lives through the glory of opera. Manitoba Opera has embraced all aspects of its mandate throughout its history, producing a range of repertoire as well as producing new Canadian works. From programs in community engagement, digital emerging artists program, an awards program, school programs and of course the amazing regular season of Opera, the Manitoba Opera offers many opportunities to connect to this beautiful art form.
