About

Cumbia Session

Dance Class – Cumbia Traditions

Cumbia, a folkloric rhythm with roots in Colombia, blends Indigenous, African, and Spanish influences. The instructor will share the story of cumbia’s origins and its role as a dance of community celebration and resistance.

Audience Engagement:

Participants will learn the basic cumbia step and traditional movements that can be danced solo or with a partner. The class will culminate in a circle dance, symbolizing community unity, rhythm, and cultural pride.

Organizer

Brampton Latinos Association

The Brampton Latinos Association is a community-led non-profit dedicated to celebrating and uplifting people of Latin American heritage. We create spaces where culture, music, food, and traditions can be shared with the wider community, helping people feel connected and proud of their roots.

We are best known for our signature events: the annual Brampton Latin Festival and Fiesta Navideña, which bring together thousands of residents each year. Alongside these celebrations, we host other cultural activities and initiatives throughout the year and are currently developing new programming set to launch in 2026, focused on supporting and empowering our community in meaningful ways.
