About

From the Edge is an audiovisual installation by Teresa Connors that is on exhibit at the NAISA North Media Arts Centre & Café in South River, Ontario. Visitors to NAISA will encounter a media artwork that explores the environment of East Coast Newfoundland based on live environmental data transmissions from the SmartAtlantic St. John's Buoy, located 1 KM offshore of Cape Spear, Newfoundland.

Teresa Connors is active as a creative coder, opera singer, and audiovisual installation artist from Newfoundland and now currently based in Montreal. Her creative system of coding for this artwork produces a nonlinear experience mixing video, soundscapes and music that all shift and change according to a variety of atmospheric and surface conditions. Embedded in the creative system is improvisational music recorded specifically for this work by Connors, plus audiovisual material recorded by video artist Shannon Lynn Harris.

The Artistic Director of NAISA is available at the scheduled times listed below to introduce the artwork to visitors and to answer questions. The artwork is appropriate for all ages.

The NAISA North Media Arts Centre and Café is open Thursday to Monday from 10 am to 4 pm. The café serves Muskoka Roastery Coffee, Teas, Homemade baked goods and Vegan soups.

In respect to the current COVID-19 health guidelines the gallery and Café has limited capacity of 10 persons at a time. All visitors must wear a mask except for when seated at dining tables. Sanitizer is available for visitors at the entrance, exit and the order counter.
