The Quesnel and District Community Arts Council (QDCAC) became an arts organization in 1971 and in November 1973 it was registered as a Non-Profit Society. QDCAC lost its status in the early 90’s and was reinstated in 1997 and has been in good standing since then. In 1989 a successful referendum was held and QDCAC played an integral role in insuring an Arts Centre was added onto the Recreation Centre. QDCAC has a renovated office and meeting spaces, and the Art Gallery and gift shop is located in the Arts and Recreation Centre.
Currently, Quesnel is in transition due to the recent epidemic of beetle kill and the possible closer of resource-based industry.
QDCAC is 100% volunteer with a 4-member Executive, and 3 Directors. The Arts Council has 18 Group Members as well as Associate and Individual members. We communicate with members by email, telephone, social media, website, personal contact as well as the monthly meeting.
