Art Spotlight - Samantha Woj
The Markham Arts Council is proud to feature talented artists both locally and from around the world with this digital Artist Spotlight program! Since launching this series in Fall 2021, the Markham Arts Council has featured more than a dozen artists who have shown their still life’s, landscapes, animal drawings, and abstract art, among other genres. For our Culture Days debut, we are proud to present local Canadian artist Samantha Woj. ABOUT THE ARTIST: Samantha Wojciechowicz (artist name Samantha Woj) is a physically disabled Canadian artist. Her artworks are influenced by movement created by people, feelings and objects. The imprints are created by throwing, rolling and bouncing sports equipment on Canva paper or canvas. The use of sports balls embodied the active and fleeting movements that occur in sports. By painting with them, the artworks capture and hold a space that reflects the unseen marks made in those moments. It also reflects the emotions that one can go through when either watching or playing the sport.
This event is free.
