About

A neighbourhood dinner for local artists and makers to discuss our role in the local economy.

Are you an artist or designer who lives in the East Strathcona neighbourhood? Join us for a tasty evening of local foods prepared by Chef Minette Lotz of The Garden Strathcona, samples of a Strathcona Beer Co seasonal ale, kombucha, and more local food products! Celebrate BC Culture Days with other creative minds who see community service and neighbourhood practice as a part of their work. If you are not from the neighbourhood but want to request a seat at the event email [email protected].

As a community partner with the Vancouver Park Board's 'Sustenance Festival' we are gathering over nutritious food, sourced locally, to awaken our taste buds and share quality time in our neighbourhood. We will dialogue about protecting neighbourhood culture in the face of rapid gentrification plus consider the issues and opportunities of East Strathcona as a 'Maker District*, a model that the Strathcona BIA and RayCam Renew support, which enables low-barrier employment and creativity for locals. We will also talk about RayCam's Design Your Life! youth workshop series (November 4-9, 2019) in partnership with Heart of the City Festival and the Strathcona Collective. We would love to learn who is working locally and who might also share their creative trade skills with local youth... architects, urban planners, landscape architects, communication designers, filmmakers, interior designer, makers, and VJ/DJs.

Copresented by the Strathcona Collective and RayCam Renew, with the assistance of Sustenance Festival and Strathcona BIA, in association with BC Culture Days, and the Vancouver Foundation's 'On the Table.' On the Table is series of events taking place across BC on this evening promoting locals sitting down together to hash out local solutions.

RayCam Renew and The Strathcona Collective

The Strathcona Collective is comprised of local businesses in support of RayCam Renew, and a community where we all live in dignity and prosperity. We believe in community economic development without displacement of existing residents and their families. The Collective is producing a series of meetups (sponsored by the Strathcona BIA), as well as helping connect the local economy to RayCam Renew and impact our neighbourhood in a good way.

RayCam Renew is a project of RayCam Cooperative Association and is building an expanded neighbourhood hub at the 900 block of East Hastings. The project is in pre-development phase for: 200+ new homes for seniors, families, youth aging-out-of-care, women fleeing violence; 3 daycare facilities; 1 new gymnasium; cultural space; community-serving retail. Project partners: RayCam, BC Housing, Vancouver Board of Parks & Recreation, and City of Vancouver.
