About

Join Brantford Painted Rocks (#BPR) at the Brantford Public Library (BPL) for an afternoon of spreading kindness and joy. All supplies will be provided to create your own #BPR.

The sole intention of the Kindness Rocks Project is to make someone else – typically a complete stranger – feel good. Rocks can be painted by people of all ages and all levels of talent; some rocks are painted with a single colour, some have a single word, and some are even brilliant works of art. Regardless of who paints them, each rock adds beauty to the world and shares messages of compassion, hope and love.

Brantford Painted Rocks

Brantford Painted Rocks (#BPR) is a Brantford, Ontario-based group spreading kindness and love through painted rocks.

A message at just the right moment can change your whole day, or even your outlook on life. You likely see them scrolling through social media every day, but what about the small, painted rocks that are popping up more and more in communities across the world? Has this small, random act of kindness warmed your heart?

It all started with a woman named Megan Murphy who lost her parents in her early 20s. As a way to feel connected to them, she looked for “signs” or messages from them on the beaches of Cape Cod; a piece of sea glass she took as a sign from her mom, while a heart-shaped rock was a sign from her dad. Finding these things lifted her spirits and made her feel supported by those who she needed the support from the most.

On a whim, on her way out the door for a walk, Murphy took a Sharpie marker from her kitchen counter; while walking, she wrote messages of hope on five rocks. Later in the day, coincidentally a friend texted her a photo of one of the rocks she placed that day, and shared how profound the message was for her. Murphy realized that one message at the right moment can change someone’s outlook on their day, or even their whole life, and started the Kindness Rocks Project.
