About
This year, the Random Acts of Poetry performance project in Thunder Bay, presented by Definitely Superior Art Gallery (aka DefSup), will take place in the form of two activities, an outdoor afternoon event on Saturday, October 17th, and an indoor evening event on Saturday October 24th, 2020.
#1) Saturday October 17th, 12noon - 3:30pm: An outdoor series of Random Acts of Poetry performances. Featuring original spoken word (poetry and prose) performers and singer-songwriters/musicians. The performances will take place in picturesque downtown north parks and nearby cool urban areas.
>RAP Performances ~ Location List (all searchable by Google maps):
-->Downtown North Parks (The Waterfront District): 1) Hillcrest Park (performing near lake-facing sidewalk, or main field) and 2) Waverley Park (Pavilion).
-->Urban Areas: 1) outside the Calico Coffee House (316 Bay St, next to Finlandia bldg./former Hoito), and 2) Cooke St. "Graffiti Art Alley" which features murals by Die Active Art Collective, DefSup's mentorship program for younger artists (enter Cooke St, across from St. Paul Roastery-11 St. Paul St).
>Meet us at any, or all, of the performance locations, or follow us when we walk from location to location ~ all socially distanced. It's up to you.
>Performances in each location, are max. 20 minutes in duration.
>At the event, there will also be a Facebook live-streamed aspect (TBA).
>Times/Schedule/Featured Performers TBA.
>No pre-registration is required, to attend this outdoor, socially-distanced performance series, following Local/Ontario maximum attendance/restrictions for outdoor public gatherings (Covid-19 regulations).
#2) Saturday October 24th, 7 - 10pm: An indoor Open House event, featuring a series of short Random Acts of Poetry performances. Featuring original spoken word (poetry and prose) performers and singer-songwriters/musicians. The performances will take place at the new location of Definitely Superior Art Gallery aka DefSup (115 N. Cumberland).
>Those attending are also invited to see our inaugural contemporary art exhibition, 2020 Future Vision in our main gallery, featuring works by 40 regional/ national/ international artists.
>At the event, there will also be a Facebook live-streamed aspect (TBA).
>Times/Schedule/Featured Performers TBA.
>Pre-registration is required *via Eventbrite, to attend this indoor socially-distanced performance series, following Local/Ontario maximum attendance/ restrictions for indoor public gatherings (Covid-19 regulations).
>Those attending the event are required to socially distance, wear a mask (re) local health unit mandatory mask order w/ limited exception provisions) and provide contact tracing info (discarded after 30 days).

What is Random Acts of Poetry?
The 15th annual Random Acts of Poetry (RAP) taking place on October 17th and 24th, 2020, will feature a diversity of performances. Featuring spoken word performers and singer-songwriters/musicians, wearing their iconic bright orange “poetry construction” crew coveralls. The purpose of this poetry outreach performance project is to promote literacy, art and poetry (“creative literacy”) in places where people live their everyday lives. It's Poetry Construction Season!

Definitely Superior Art Gallery (aka DefSup) in Thunder Bay, is Northwest Ontario's leading-edge Artist-Run Centre for the contemporary arts. We operate as an alternative to both the commercial art galleries and to the larger, mainstream public galleries. Local citizens and visitors can experience multi-disciplinary activities, such as visual art exhibitions, artist workshops and lectures, film and video screenings, media arts installations, performance art, experimental sound/audio, music and literacy events.
Every year, the gallery presents up to 45 exhibitions, events and activities.
