About
First Avenue, a street that traverses the heart of what is known as “downtown Mission” has a long and storied history. From the famous land auction of 300 city lots on May 19, 1891 by James Welton Horne to the celebration of the arrival of the Olympic Torch for 2010 Winter Olympics on February 8, 2010, more milestones in Mission’s history have taken place on First Avenue than on any other street.
This online presentation will feature photographs from the Archives dating from the early 1900s to the present that tell the fascinating story of First Avenue, allowing viewers to see how it has both changed and stayed the same over the last 12 decades.
