About

A tipi (teepee or tepee) is a tent, traditionally made of animal skins upon wooden poles. A tipi is distinguished from other conical tents by the smoke flaps at the top of the structure. Historically, the tipi has been used by Indigenous people of Canadian Prairies of North America. They are still in use in these communities, though now primarily for ceremonial purposes rather than daily living.

Are you interested in learning more about tipi building and what it means? Come to Langenburg Culture Days on September 28th and enjoy tipi building ceremony!
