Culture Days serves as a celebration of arts, culture and the creative in the community. This usually takes the form of an in-person event, video, tour or participatory experience of a specific art form. This is something a little different, a slightly different perspective and a celebration of the creative spirit.

The Perth Street Promenade is a part of King West: The Art District, the area in downtown Brockville where the arts are taking root. Perth Street is home to a number of fairly new owner run businesses and shops. When the pandemic hit they were forced to scramble and find new ways to make their businesses viable. Even when they were allowed to reopen they have smaller footprints and therefore very restrictive customer limits, often two or three. So time to get creative.

The Backyard Bazaar was born. Reutilizing and repurposing the green space behind their shops as an inviting, safe gathering area they have created an oasis of art in the heart of the downtown. Allowing for social distancing and all of the necessary health protocols they have created a comfortable, welcoming spot for exhibitors as well as visitors. They can incorporate music, food and an array of art styles to create an interactive experience.

So while we celebrate specific art forms throughout Culture Days let's not forget the creative spark that lies behind it all. Neighbours bonding together to innovate out of crisis.

Brockville Culture Days is a community grassroots organization dedicated to promoting arts and culture year round. As much a networking and facilitation group it encourages the exploration and formation of linkages between artists in different milieu, disciplines and creative communities to explore the art of possibility.
