Organizer

411 Senior Center Society - Powered by Age Podcast program

The 411 Seniors Centre Society works toward an inclusive community of informed and connected seniors. It provides programs and services such as information and referral; free income tax preparation; and events that mobilize seniors’ diverse strengths, talents, interests, and expertise. It launched Powered by Age: Age-Friendly City, as a senior-led podcast creation program in January 2020 with weekly, onsite meetings. Since then, people recruited from 411, other senior centers and groups, have been discussing topics or issues intended to help create "age-friendly" cities. Program Coordinator, Charlotte Sista C Ferrell, initiated training to help interested participants increase skill and confidence as "podcast ambassadors” who help others learn online tools, create segments, interview people, or raise awareness of senior issues. During the pandemic-related "shut down" the program has operated weekly via Zoom, on Thursdays, 1-2 pm (PDT) PBA podcasts are posted to anchor.FM, CJSF FM, major podcast platforms, and the PBA website. Due to Covid-safety precautions, our October 1 Culture Days connection to the 411 Center's celebration is only inviting people online. The 411 Center continually assesses its capability to host larger groups while adhering to well-established Covid-19 safety standards. The PBA podcasts follow these guidelines primarily by connecting larger audiences through streaming from the physical location.
