About

Join our virtual SpeakEASY Cabaret! Immerse yourself in artistic experiences of the body.

Afro-Latina writer and activist Coral Santana is your guide in this kick off to our livestream festival, exploring the connections between minority experiences and sex, sexuality and body ownership.

Date: Friday September 25

Location: TWITCH Channel

https://www.twitch.tv/artivism2020

Time: 4PM - 5PM

This one-hour long opening ceremony will be a place of delight and sensuous teasing through stand-up comedy, spoken word by BC Culture Days Ambassador, Coral Santana, live music by Vancouver's own Missy D and an enthralling performance "Force of Nature" by Shane Sable of the Indigenous Burlesque Group, Virago Nation. All have created something enticing and new for our festival theme: "the art of creative resistance and the politics of the body."

This evening of excitements is part of SpeakEASY, a weekend encounter that will ignite all your senses with live music, spoken word, aphrodisiac cuisine and all delights hidden by the curtains of the night.

ARTIVISIM is an annual festival celebrated at UBC to mark BC Culture Days, with showcases and talks that explore the work artists generate to forward creative resistance/social injustice.

This year, the theme will be “Sex and The Unheard”, where we will highlight minority voices such as disabled, LGBTQIA+, BPOC, Indigenous and Visibly religious artists and how they use their art and their platform to regain control over sex, sexuality and their own bodies.
