About

Richmond Artists Guild and their plein air group Men in Hats invite you to try painting outside! No instruction but plenty of inspiration, all mediums and ages welcome to paint along or watch. Please respect the space and comfort level of other participants.

Those who’ve never tried it before may want to bring either an easel and painting/drawing materials or a chair and sketchbook or mobile device with a sketching app. Please dress appropriate for the weather, allowing that you feel cooler standing still. Consider a hat and sunscreen for sunny days, a mask, paper towels or wipes for your hands, water and a snack. Please respect the spaces we’ll be visiting, do not trespass beyond public areas and leave nothing behind.

There’s no registration, check in or fee, but as with all events please stay home if you are feeling any symptoms, have been travelling or in contact with anyone who may have been infected. Painters and spectators have plenty of space to spread out and find a vista they like. Iona Beach is a beautiful location, usually drawing beach walkers, birdwatchers and plane spotters with its long stretches of sand, ponds, ever-changing tapestry of wildlife, and magnificent views. Watch the planes from the nearby airport, glimpse tugs minding log booms on the Fraser, or just enjoy the vast ocean and sky panoramas. Parking is free, washrooms on site. Please respect any wildlife and commercial boundary signs.
