About

Author Reading with Natalee Johnson

I will be reading My Magnificent Hair. This book is written to encourage everyone, especially young children within culturally diverse communities to embrace and love their hair and culture. The message is: Love who you are and everything about you! Simple, repetitive lines. The different texture and styles for African-American hair are presented in repetitive sentences, for example curly, dreads, extensions, straightened, long or short, twists and straight.

I will also be reading a poem from my poetry book: I Come As I Am: Reflection in Verse. The poem I will be reading is called Dreams are Real. This poem encourages others to pursue their goals and dreams. You will be inspired and empowered.

Organizer

Natalee Johnson, Author

My name is Natalee A. Johnson, also known as Naj.

I am an author, educator, creator, community change agent and advocate for children, youth, women and families. I am also the founder of Passion 4 Dreams Inc and author of My Magnificent Hair (2016) and I Come As I Am: Reflections of Verse (Revised 2016).

My journey of writing started as a child with my grandmother who lived in the Caribbean. We maintained communication by writing letters to each other. In our letters we shared many stories. Over time, I developed a love for reading and writing. My goal is to continue to write books that reflect culture, identity and history, while inspiring others. I am a advocate for equity, diversity and inclusion.

I also am the organizer of a virtual book club, where community members meet virtually to discuss books on our yearly list.

Throughout the year, I participate in community readings, where I share my two books. For the year of 2020, I will be reading my books virtually. To learn more about upcoming community readings, you can visit www.najjohnson.com

My books are also available on all online distributors that sell books. To connect with, feel free to follow me on social media.
