About
An experimental dance and noise performance by Waawaate Fobister, Veronica Blackhawk, and Bret Parenteau curated by Justin Bear L’Arrivee.
“When we honour Aadizookaanag, we recognize the spirit and sentience of our stories”
Treaty 3 artists Waawaate Fobister, Veronica Blackhawk, and Bret Parenteau travelled to Iskatewizaagegan Shoal Lake #39 to gather sounds and video footage – reflecting on the aqueduct that carries stolen water to Winnipeg. Through conversations with the land, they devised their sound and dance performance to honor Aadizookaanag; the spirit of the story. Featuring heavy noise, looping and distorted guitar, and contemporary dance with traditional ochre, the performance honours the stories told by the land, water, and community affected by the aqueduct – and the ancestral stories and spirits that carry us into the future.
