About
In honour of Orange Shirt Day, you are invited to attend the Smudge Walk and Round Dance happening at Kelvington Legion Hall.
The Smudge Walk is an Indigenous ceremony whose purpose is to cleanse the community being walked through. The walk will start at Kelvington Legion Hall at 11:00 a.m. Anyone regardless of background is welcome to walk in this event!
A lunch will then take place at 12:00 p.m. in the Legion Hall
Afterward, a round dance will take place at the Legion Hall with live music from an Indigenous drum group. This is an opportunity for community members to come together and learn about certain aspects of local Indigenous culture.
Pow Wow dancers will also perform at the end of the round dance.
Everyone is welcome to walk, dance and learn at both events! Wearing orange is highly encouraged!
COVID-19 health guidelines will be followed.
Organizer
Yellow Quill Reconciliation
For Yellow Quill First Nation, the goals of reconciliation are to build authentic relationships with surrounding communities and to promote healing. We collaborate with various towns and organisations to help us implement these goals. We hope that the Round Dance and Smudge Walk will be the start of a strong relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in the area.
