About
Last year, when Hornepayne Public Library made a ukulele available for loan to their patrons, they planted a seed in the community.
This fall, a group of artists, teachers and arts supporters in Southern Ontario raised $4000 in 7 days. With the generous assistance of Scarboro Music in Toronto, this enabled us to bring 110 ukuleles to Hornepayne, Ontario.
That's enough for each child in grades 2-8 and their teachers and support staff to each have access to an instrument for personal use. In a crazy year where health and safety have made music instruction a challenge, we are working with school staff, community agencies, families and artists to work within public health protocols to provide these children - and young people around the Centre of Ontario - with online, and in school.
During the Culture Days period, community artists and emerging arts leaders from the YOUthink program will provide online one on one mentorship in ukulele, musicianship, theory, songwriting and recording to help children, families and community musicians explore how to best make use of this new community resource.
