About
Muskoka Chautauqua coordinates and supports innovative multi-disciplinary and arts-based programs and organizations to inspire lifelong learning, personal growth, enrichment and renewal by celebrating creativity, the human spirit and Muskoka’s unique heritage and natural environment.
Our typical summer programming looked quite different this year and we took the opportunity to explore creative ways of operating in a virtual environment as well as planning ahead for next year. Once we knew that we'd be unable to hold in-person programming, we focused our efforts on preparing for our 100th anniversary next summer.
We held a video shoot in Windermere over four days in mid August, showcasing all that Muskoka Chautauqua has to offer.
On land overlooking Lake Rosseau, on a hay wagon under twinkle lights and the stars stands an Ojibway elder sharing messages of wisdom and bringing greetings to a group of artists singing, dancing, painting, filming, writing, sharing and making beautiful, creative treasurers from their hearts and souls.
For most of us, it's our first time out since March. Some participated from a nearby city, filming at a different location, but totally connected and also a very significant part of Muskoka Chautauqua and its history.
This land and these lakes and Muskoka Chautauqua have long been an intersection for diverse and unexpected interactions and cultural engagement.
We are sharing online highlights of the Windermere Village Arts Festival which was filmed without an audience, in Muskoka and Toronto, including behind the scenes’ conversations with the artists.
Rooted in the days when Muskoka Chautauqua was known as Canada's Literary Summer Capital, moderator Norah Fountain teases out common insights from very diverse writers, Cheryl Cooper, Lyn Golding and Audrey Jolly and Lloyd Walton. This is the premiere viewing of this very special video.
