About

Have you ever wondered what goes through the mind of the saxophone section as they practice, perform, improvise, and run their music business? We want to welcome music enthusiasts and saxophonists of any skill level to an interactive masterclass with Jeremy Brown and Eric Friedenburg, two of the CJO’s saxophonists. They will perform some Jazz excerpts, answer questions from the public and offer technique advice and other recommendations to improve the musicianship of those in the room. Interactive masterclass, bring your instrument if you'd like!

Dr. Jeremy Brown is a conductor, saxophonist, woodwind artist, lecturer, author and professor of Music, as well as former head of the Music department at the University of Calgary. Dr. Brown has lectured internationally and is the author of the book The Wind Band of Henry Cowell, published in 2018. He conducts the Calgary Wind Symphony and the University of Calgary wind and jazz bands.

In addition to being one of Calgary's most accomplished flute and saxophone players, Eric Friedenberg is an arranger, composer, and musical director. He has also taught at the University of Calgary and at the Conservatory of Mount Royal University. Eric has also served as arranger, conductor and musical director for various TV show and special events.
