About

Time to Play for the Lost Time

Presented in partnership with Jade Music Festival

Within diasporic communities, one of the most important conversations for first and second-generation family members is how their varying life experiences actually create barriers in their relationship.

Time to Play for the Lost Time is a cross-generational presentation of music where the memories of first-generation immigrants reconnect with today’s youth. Second-generation Taiwanese Canadian artist Van Lefan incorporates elements from their parents’ beloved popular singers during their youth into her own arrangements. She will also share stories about her relationship with her parents and her creative journey.

ABOUT JADE MUSIC FESTIVAL

Jade Music Fest & Awards is an annual music event which aims to make Vancouver the North American hub for Chinese-language music through the elevation of underrepresented Sinophone artists in BC. Launched in 2022, JMF’s goal is to present a majority of Chinese language artists from Canada in the hopes of giving Chinese language-speaking Canadians the representation and equal opportunities in the Canadian and international music scene they very much deserve. https://jmfa.ca/

Organizer

Gateway Theatre

Gateway Theatre is A Stage for Richmond, providing a platform for the whole community to contribute to, and benefit from, the performing arts. It’s a place where we can all learn from each other, see ourselves represented, and take pride in the rich cultural landscape that Richmond has to offer.

Gateway provides entry points for audiences and performers in three key areas: Artistic Offerings, Education and Community Rentals. Through our Artistic Offerings, we produce a breadth of stories that tackle the ideas, values and issues which reflect the diverse people of this city. We bring people together through shared artistic experiences that encourage dialogue and exchange. Our Education programming connects youth to the performing arts, including offering classes in acting, singing, and dancing. Where it is most transformative is beyond the stage, building confidence, self-awareness, and a sense of belonging in young people. Our Community Rentals program allows Richmond to celebrate its achievements, with thousands of people coming through our doors each year to participate in events put on by the public.

We are excited to be bringing Richmond together through the performing arts.
