About

Discover three exhibitions at PoMoArts, including solo exhibitions by Speplól Tanya Zilinski and Yeonmi Kim, and group exhibition by Rosemary Burd, Marisa Myrah, and Heather Talbot.

In Transcendence, Speplól Tanya Zilinski of Chawathil First Nation, Ts'qó:ls (Hope, BC), uncovers the physical, philosophical, and spiritual dimensions of transcendence through contemporary loom-beaded tapestries. Their process is informed by chaos theory, allowing chance to guide pattern formation while engaging with the logic of fractals found in the natural world. The works incorporate British Melton wool as acts of cultural reclamation and resistance, transcending the viewer to contemplate the ongoing exploitation of Indigenous peoples, lands, waterways, and sovereignty.

Yeonmi Kim's exhibition Polyunethical addresses environmental change, means of production, and sustainable living using reclaimed materials and discarded plastic. Drawing from her background in fashion and interior furniture design, Yeonmi presents patterned works made from plastic waste, alongside sculptural works created from reclaimed wood collected from beaches, forests, and construction sites. Polyunethical draws on Yeonmi's experience of living in harmony with nature while examining the environmental impacts of human misconduct.

Rosemary Burd, Heather Talbot, and Marisa Myrah present a collaborative dialogue between their practices in Renderings, inspired by their walks in West Coast forests. Shifting between micro and macro perspectives, their works invite close reflection on intricate ecosystems, our relationships to them, and impacts of human activity. Together, Marisa Myrah’s oil and watercolour paintings, Heather Talbot’s photorealistic needle-felted pieces, and Rosemary Burd’s embroidered photographs reflect a shared attentiveness towards the fragility of these spaces.
