About
Join Yolanda T. Marshall and Suzette Vidale for an afternoon of interactive storytelling through children’s picture books and music. Children and parents are invited to enjoy a literary soca party. Yolanda will read her books about Canada’s Caribbean carnival and Suzette will play the wonderful sounds of the festivity on her steelpans.
Come prepared to dance, sing and learn about Soca and Calypso music. Immerse yourself in the joys of the Caribbean culture.
This event is FREE and accessible to all.

Yolanda T. Marshall is a Guyanese-born, award-winning Canadian author. She is the author of seventeen books such as 'A Piece of Black Cake for Santa', 'Sweet Sorrel Stand', 'C is for Carnival' and one of CBC’s best Canadian picture books of 2020 and TD's Summer Club's Top Recommended reads for 2023 - 'My Soca Birthday Party: with Jollof Rice and Steel Pans'. I write diverse, inclusive and festive children's literature. I ventured into the world of publishing in 2008. I am an author of 15 books, currently agented and traditionally published.
My son is my greatest inspiration.
I am a Guyanese-born Canadian Author. I am also a columnist/editor for Canada's Caribbean Camera newspaper's “Lit Corner”. I am Agented.
Titles since 2020 have been traditionally published in Canada.
Suzette Vidale is an innovative steelpan artist. With roots from St. Lucia and Trinidad, the home of the steelpan, Suzette has incorporated the rich and vibrant cultures of Toronto into her diverse repertoire. As an ambassador of Steelpan, she has introduced this instrument, its history, and its unique sound to local schools, corporations, and attendees of countless diverse events.
