About

Pirkko Karvonen will provide a interesting and interactive demonstration of Finnish weaving with an opportunity for everyone to participate. You will learn about Finnish weaving techniques including weaving poppana, raanu (in wool) or tablet weaving (lautanauha). Using table looms and weaving tablets, participants will create their own weaving sample such as a key chain or card weaving.

Pirkko Karvonen first learned how to weave out of necessity as a youth in post-war Finland. In her adult years, Karvonen honed her craft to become the prolific, internationally reknowned fabric artist and teacher she is today.
