About

Bike and Circuses 2026 offers a new twist on a signature Wild Roots Theatre event, as we partner with Nuit Blanche, stretching live performances into the night. Located on the edge of Stephen Juba Park, we are creating an open air three ring circus experience where performances bring to light themes related to climate change such as conservation, consumption, living locally and active transportation. Imagine acrobatic spin-class enthusiasts cycling through time, dancers in the trees, lively game show hosts ready for play, and a sensational Ring Master as your host. The outside air is filled with sound: percussion, immersive soundscapes, music, and laughter.

The event will offer equal parts spectacle and environmental education, highlighting not just the state of our environment but also our abilities to make choices that can spark positive change. Each "ring circus" performance will be 15 minutes long, beginning on the hour with a 15 minute break to reset for yet another ride through our show!

Organizer

Wild Roots Theatre

Founded in 1991, Wild Roots Theatre is a Winnipeg-based, incorporated charitable theatre organization dedicated to environmental education through performance—what we proudly call Theatre for the Planet. Starting out as activists, we have grown to offer programming for kids, families and the general public, creating participatory theatrical experiences that make environmental and community issues feel real, urgent, and personal.

We explore environmental science through theatre, allowing participants to imagine, empathize and laugh, all while understanding the serious issues we face. We inspire audiences and participants to be gentler on our planet, giving them both hope and accountability through meaningful yet simple changes in daily habits, with tangible goals. Our programming is informative, realistic, and optimistic, emphasizing community spirit and individual action, with the message that every little bit of help is an invaluable contribution.

Our mandate is to create artistic, engaging and memorable theatrical experiences that promote environmental stewardship and empower people of all ages to participate in climate protection. Grounded in sustainable practices, we are committed to diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility in all the work we do.
