About

Baroque Biology will be an art and science fair at Point Pelee National Park for audiences of all ages. Over the course of one day – through experimentation, storytelling, sculpture, parades and performance – artist Jennifer Willet and special guests will invite park-goers to learn more about the Great Lakes ecology. Activities will include an artist presentation, hands-on workshop activities, artworks and scientific displays, live music and a parade!

Dr. Jennifer Willet (she/her) is an artist, a Canada Research Chair in Art, Science, and Ecology, a Professor in the School of Creative Arts at the University of Windsor and the Director of INCUBATOR ArtLab, founded in 2009. She is a member of the College of New Scholars, Artists, and Scientists in the Royal Society of Canada. Willet is a leader in the Canadian bioart community and works internationally as an artist and curator in the field. In 2018, Willet opened a new state-of-the-art bioart laboratory, and in 2020 a storefront bioart studio and community engagement centre in Windsor, Ontario.

Baroque Biology by Dr. Jennifer Willet is commissioned as part of Ontario Culture Days' Creatives in Residence series and presented in partnership with Arts Council Windsor & Region (ACWR), University of Windsor, and in collaboration with Parks Canada.

Organizer

Ontario Culture Days

The Ontario Culture Days Festival is an annual celebration of arts, culture and heritage taking place each fall across the province. Each year, we work with organizers of all disciplines to produce this province-wide festival. Organizers host programs throughout Ontario and invite the public to participate for free.

Ontario Culture Days lives at the local level. We support organizers from the smallest hamlets to the largest cities, while coordinating with other national and provincial Culture Days partners. We support the success of our sector colleagues through resources and network development, while highlighting the breadth and heterogeneity of Ontario’s arts and culture to the wider public.
