About

Join us for the Local Immigration Partnership's Diver-City Workshops which explores the role the arts, cuisine, urban design, music and culture play in creating a welcoming and inclusive community where everyone feels a sense of belonging and purpose.

The forum will showcase a keynote address by Dr. Teni Araba, Director of Human Resources at Algoma University and accomplished singer.

The forum will also offer three unique participatory workshops to get attendees involved in thinking about how creating food, art, and even public spaces can help bridge the gap between past and future identities.

1) "Welcoming By Design" - Led by Josh Ingram, Director of the Downtown Association, participants will have the opportunity to take part in collaboratively designing a welcoming and inclusive public space in the heart of the city.

2) ArtSpeaks ArtHive is a community art studio that welcomes everyone as an artist.

From an art pop-up in a local library to a community studio or gallery, at its heart, an Art Hive is about inclusion, respect and learning. It's a welcoming place to talk, make art and build communities. Responding in creative ways to things that matter. This workshop, guided by Maria Parrella-Ilaria, will allow participants to experience an ArtHive and explore their own mental health through art-making.

3) Learn the art of making Baklava and Syrian Style coffee. Demonstration & tasting. This event will take place in the Summer Kitchen of the Ermatinger Old Stone House. Presented by Dania, Dina, Souad, and Reem.
