About
From the Archives to the Stage: PODCAST LAUNCH!
Join us for the launch of the podcast series “From the archives to the stage: biographical testimonies of the African diaspora”. We want to know how historians, artists, and cultural producers collaborate when they when take individual stories -- which emerged during or after Trans-Atlantic enslavement -- beyond the academic space and into artistic platforms. During this livestream [webinar] we will talk to. producer Bruno R. Veras, director Fernanda Sierra (and a couple of other past podcast guest..!) about the creation of this project, how history is presented in theatre, music, TV, film etc., and the importance of studying the African Diaspora.
Guests:
Fernanda Sierra Suárez (Podcast series manager) is a Toronto-based cultural worker, graduate of the Culture and Expression program at York University. Her work binds together Public History and creative expression. This podcast series is the culmination of a research project which aims to introduce audiences to fascinating and important works which celebrate African history through art-making.
Bruno R. Véras (Podcast series producer) is a digital historian and cultural producer whose work focuses on Global Africa, historical slavery and art-education. His work as a UNESCO consultant for Africa-Brazilian history resulted in museum and art exhibits. He is a documentary filmmaker working on art and performances in Brazil, Uganda, South Africa, Nigeria, Canada and Egypt.
