About

Art in Algoma is a short video featuring artworks in the permanent collection of the Art Gallery of Algoma that depict places in Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma Region. Over the centuries Algoma stimulates creativity in artists. The video is also featuring actual sites that artists depicted in their artworks. Featured artists include David Bierk, Lydia Davis Hargreaves, John Hartman, Fran Snider-Pond, John Laford, John Herbert Caddy, Ken MacDougall, William Armstrong, J.E.H. MacDonald, Diane Pugen. Algoma's beautiful landscape remains an inspiration to many artists to this day.

Art Gallery of Algoma

Art Gallery of Algoma (AGA) is the public art gallery incorporated in 1975. The mandate of the Gallery is to collect, present and preserve artwork by Canadian, international and local artists. The permanent collection of the AGA is over 5,000 artworks, many by well-known Canadian artists. In addition to presenting exhibitions the AGA has an active educational program and virtual programs available on the website wwwartgalleryofalgoma.com and on the YouTube channel. The Gallery is located in downtown Sault Ste. Marie on the banks of St. Mary's River.
