About

Shovel Garden provides a cooling effect for Winnipeggers, reminding them about the first snowfall in October to the gloomy temperatures that rival (and exceed) the planet Mars. Shovels are positioned in a one-by-one meter grid and hauntingly stand like soldiers waiting for the first snowfall—a chillingly cheeky reminder of how cold Winnipeg can get. The monochromatic snow shovels act as an iconic reflection of winter.

Shovel Garden is designed by Winnipeg’s Nadi Design. Presented by StorefrontMB and The Forks, Cool Gardens is a public exhibition of contemporary garden and art installations that celebrate the interface between nature, art, architecture, urbanism and design.
