About
A Kandahar Away, a film by Aisha Jamal will be premiered at the Wynyard Civic Center. Filmed over three years in the area, this screening offers the community a chance see the film and to meet the families involved.
As a refugee to Canada, Abdul Bari tries to find creative ways to keep his ties to his homeland of Afghanistan. When he discovers there's another Kandahar right here in Canada's heartland, he makes the decision to buy each member of his family a part of this special place. Surprised by their unusual inheritance the family sets out to visit the hamlet together. Their visit to the land represents the first time that the charming locals meet Canadians from their namesake city in Afghanistan. As the filr captures the interaction of the rural, Prairie Canadians with this family of urbanites, it also examines the different elements of what it means to be Canadian.
