About
Join Melanie Gray in crafting copper ornaments that will adorn the Tett Tree of Life. Participants will work with pre-cut and annealed copper pieces and have the opportunity to file the edges and add a hammered texture to their design. Additionally, Melanie will talk about the significance of copper in indigenous culture and share insights on traditional copper texturing techniques. Hailing from Tyendinaga (Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte), Melanie Gray is an artist who specializes as a wampum carver and silversmith. She consistently integrates culture and connection into all her creations.
The activity will run 2 sessions from 1pm-1:45pm, and 2pm-2:45pm with a maximum of 8 students for each session. For registration, email Eileen at ([email protected]).
This activity is part of "Tett Tree of Life: An Interactive Adventure and Collective Showcase." Please check the "Other Events from this Organizer" below to find more information and discover additional activities to engage with Tett tenant organizations and studio artists in the building for this event. Together, we will create the Tett Tree of Life, visually representing our vibrant arts community.

Tett Centre for Creativity & Learning
The Tett Centre for Creativity & Learning (TCCL) is a not-for-profit corporation governed by an independent, community-based board, which is accountable to its membership: the City of Kingston as represented by Mayor and Council. Within its broader mission, the TCCL is mandated (and funded in part) by the City of Kingston to operate the City-owned J.K. Tett Centre as an accessible multi-use arts centre that supports cultural vitality throughout the region.
The J.K. Tett Centre is home to nine arts organizations (including the TCCL), eight Creativity Studio Artists, a beautiful waterfront café, and four multi-use rentable public spaces, including the Malting Tower, Rehearsal Hall, and Tett Gallery and Activity Room.
Together with our resident arts organizations, the TCCL is a thriving hub of artistic creation, learning and exchange that engages and inspires every part of our community. The TCCL offers many opportunities to immerse yourself in the arts, including classes, workshops, exhibitions, and building-wide open house events. It contributes to a vibrant arts community in Kingston by fostering collaboration among resident arts organizations.
