About

Bhangra Roots: Punjabi Folk Dance Workshop & Performance invites the public to experience the energy, rhythm, and cultural meaning of Punjabi folk dance. This interactive Culture Days event will begin with a short introduction to Bhangra, including its connection to Punjabi heritage, music, farming traditions, celebration, and community identity.

Participants will then take part in a beginner-friendly Bhangra workshop led by Komal Sandhu Bhangra Instructor at Folk Star Arts Academy Society, Gurman Singh Birdi (Punjabi Folk Singer) and Rohit Sharma Instrument (Dhol) player, where they will learn basic steps, arm movements, rhythm, and simple choreography. No dance experience is required, and all ages and backgrounds are welcome to participate.

The event will also include a short live Bhangra performance, giving attendees the opportunity to see traditional Punjabi folk dance presented with music, costumes, and cultural expression. The program is designed to be welcoming, fun, and educational, while encouraging community members to learn about Punjabi culture through movement, participation, and shared celebration.

Organizer

Folk Star Arts Acadmey Society

Folk Star Arts Academy Society is a non-profit arts and culture organization dedicated to preserving, teaching, and sharing Punjabi folk arts with the community. Our vision is to keep Punjabi cultural traditions alive by creating welcoming spaces where youth, families, and community members can learn, participate, and connect through dance, music, language, and cultural education.

Year-round, Folk Star Arts Academy provides Bhangra and Punjabi folk dance training, youth workshops, community performances, cultural events, and volunteer opportunities. Our programs support artistic learning, cultural pride, intergenerational connection, and community engagement. We regularly work with youth and families to teach traditional Punjabi folk dance forms, rhythm, movement, performance skills, and the cultural meaning behind the art.

This Culture Days event connects directly to our ongoing work by giving the public an opportunity to experience Bhangra through both participation and performance. It allows us to share Punjabi folk arts with a wider community while encouraging learning, inclusion, and appreciation for cultural diversity.
