About

To celebrate Culture Days, Toronto's First Post Office will be leading a quill-writing workshop! Write a letter as they did in the Town of York in the 1830s. After a brief introduction to all the materials, and a few tips on mastering quill, ink, and sealing wax, you'll have the opportunity to write your very own letter which we encourage you to mail at Toronto's First Post Office, Canada's oldest purpose-built post office still in operation. Don't forget to bring an address!

This Culture Days activity is free with a PWYM donation option(Pay What You May)! 100% of proceeds go to material costs for the program. Please RSVP for a ticket as spaces are limited. All ages welcome. Please note: Attendees are responsible for purchasing or bringing a postage stamp if they wish to mail their letter. All other materials are included.

Toronto's First Post Office | Town of York Historical Society

Toronto's First Post Office is Canada's oldest surviving purpose-built post office still in operation, in the heart of Toronto's historic St. Lawrence Old Town neighbourhood. Operated by the Town of York Historical Society, a nonprofit charity organization, Toronto's First Post Office tells the stories of the Town of York and the early City of Toronto (1793-1851). We help Toronto’s current residents and visitors to engage with these stories, particularly through the lens of community, communication, and built heritage.

As a registered National Historic Site, we fulfill the original intended purpose of the building by operating a fully functioning Post Office inside our location and are an authorized dealer of Canada Post. We also offer a curated Stationery Gift Shop that features local and Canadian artists.
