About
With mixed-media fibre art, Krystyna and Justyna strive to use their preferred media (weaving and photography respectively), with an unconventional twist – they push outside the medias’ boundaries while still paying homage to the traditions of the media themselves. In their mixed-media endeavours, both the women create work to bring together all the elements of their individual work and media, their shared concern for our natural environment, and their love of experimentation.
The work chosen for this show, Indelible, focuses on using the very essence of light as a medium - taking an unconventional approach to creating texture - using fiber to weave light and using the camera to weave with light. Krystyna’s work consists mainly of fiber art and tapestry work with a mixed media twist. Justyna’s work consists mainly of photographic images with a mixed-media twist. The work strives to reflect the ever changing and dynamic energy of life and represents the direct influence of mother-on-daughter and daughter-on-mother. Some of the work is based on individual reflection and intended as a complement to each other’s work, while some work is paired together as a direct conversation and response to each other’s work.
Organizer
Krystyna Sadej
Krystyna experiments with recycled materials (plastic foil, video tape, transparent packing tape, and synthetic yarn) alongside more traditional fiber art materials (sisal and wool) and incorporates traditional weaving techniques with a modern approach.
