About

Experience the distinct belly dance styles of Banat Al Raks and Hibiscus Dance during this hour long program. This event will be offered both in-person and online via livestream here: https://www.facebook.com/kelownaculturedays/live/

Banat Al Raks will perform both Egyptian Folkloric and Belly Dance styles of Middle Eastern Dance. Keep an eye out for some 'Unexpected Intersections' in their program!

Hibiscus Tribal Dance will then take to the stage to demonstrate a FCBD Style belly dance, a Transnational Synchronized Dance using cues and eye contact. This is a new style of dance that looks old, featuring elegant and earthy steps inspired by Spanish, Indian, Middle Eastern, and North African styles.

Tickets to the event are free, with donations gratefully accepted and going directly to the artists. Confirming your reservation in advance is strongly recommended as space is limited due to covid-19 safety measures. Reserve here: https://rotarycentreforthearts.com/events/event/77202/

Please note: masks are mandatory in the Mary Irwin Theatre and social distancing will be in effect. Visit www.rotarycentreforthearts.com for more information about covid-19 safety measures at the venue.

Organizer

Banat Al Raks & Hibiscus Dance

Banat Al Raks (Girls of Dance) started in 1998 (formed in 1993, started under current name in 1998). They perform both Folkloric and Belly Dance styles of Middle Eastern Dance. Ranging in ages from teen to senior, they are a group of seven who love to dance and perform. | Glenda Schwandt, Creative Director of Hibiscus Dance started her belly dance journey in 2010 after having her second child; little did she know that this dance sparked something insider her that would take her to places that she thought were impossible. This journey has lead to meeting and dancing with people from all over the work that speak the same dance language, celebrating the strength in sisterhood and finding beauty no matter your size or age. Glenda is truly grateful and honoured to share her passion and skills to help grow the belly dance community.
