About
SHADE is an OPEN design competition to design and make a SHADE prototype. SHADE seeks a purposeful integration of lighting and space. Both as object and effect, the fixture performs as a catalyst for re-imagining the potentials of the spaces we inhabit. To this end, a range of explorations that extend the breadths of the light-form-space interaction from the spectacle to the nuanced, the dramatic to the banal and superfluous, are encouraged.
The winners of SHADE have been selected and their SHADES are now on display in coffee shops around Winnipeg! Come see them at: Thom Bargen (Kennedy), Degrees (U of M), Parlour, High Tea Bakery, and Cafe Postal.

Organizer
Winnipeg Design Festival
The Winnipeg Design Festival attempts to cultivate and share Winnipeg’s rich community of talented and creative individuals; and the products of their creative processes of design and making. WDF also strives to build and cultivate interdisciplinary relationship and partnerships with industry and like-minded organizations that promote the value of the good design of art, objects, architecture, and the greater built environment. WDF also wishes to be inclusive to a greater public audience, as a means of promotion, appreciation, and education of the design of the built environment. StorefrontMB is pleased to announce the theme of the 2019 Winnipeg Design Festival (2019 WDF), PROTO-, with Jae-Sung Chon as acting curator. Following the theme, 2019 WDF will focus on encouraging, embracing, celebrating, and respecting the idea of the ‘first-in-time’ or ‘first-of’ within Winnipeg’s dynamic design culture.
