Join surrealist painter Julian Growcott for the live virtual opening to his exhibition 'Perceptions' at the Silk Purse Arts Centre. Take a tour of the exhibition, look at some of the artwork up close & hear from Julian as he discusses his inspirations & artistic process. You'll also have to opportunity to ask the artist questions. Julian Growcott's work invites viewers to challenge their perceptions of traditional landscapes as a subject & reality itself. Born in England, Julian is a Graduate of Emily Carr University of Art & Design. His starkly focused modern landscapes are combined with surreal imagery, painted in acrylics & gouache with very fine brushwork & realistic details. Influenced by lucid dreams & childhood memories of England his subjects are as diverse as village streets, smoky factories amid pastoral countrysides & high-rise buildings, most with a backdrop of curious cloud formations. Some images look like one subject but on closer inspection are quite another. 'Perceptions' is on view at the Silk Purse Arts Centre, 1570 Argyle Ave, West Vancouver from September 29-October 25. If you enjoy the virtual opening & want to see the art in person, masks are mandatory & physical distancing is recommended.
