About

My booklet, Dear Younger Self is a compilation of reflections on the beautiful journey of adolescence. Dear Younger Self can be viewed through my YouTube link, which will take you directly to the booklet pdf video. Participants can pause during each page, in order to read the pieces and reflect with soft music playing in the background. In the booklet, I tried to capture the feeling of confusion and the challenges that youth often encounter in their everyday lives: in their relationships with their friends, parents, and wider society; as well as their complex emotions about body image, intellectual growth, and changes in the world around them. My inspiration for Dear Younger Self came from the fact that the majority of the time, younger people tend to crave a sense of normalcy during their adolescence; something that resonates with me personally as well. I grew up reading literature with symbolistic ideas or metaphoric representations, as opposed to a more straightforward or blunt style of writing, which I wish was more widely available. Therefore, I hope my written compositions will be a source through which teenagers can feel validated and understood.

Faaria Naz

I am an emerging artist. My parents are from Pakistan and I was born and raised in Canada, which means that both Canadian culture and Pakistani Muslim culture have influenced my passion and work as an artist. I will soon be a second-year Creative Writing student at OCAD University and my preferred genre of writing is poetry. I love doing anything artistic and creative, whether it be painting or drawing, or even baking.
