Those of us participating in the Cup of LOVE Show and Sale are from Clifton Studios; an artist co-operative on Clifton Street. A working art centre for almost 40 years, it has housed an interesting variety of craftspeople.
The building was built in 1917 and The first tenants made covers for horse-drawn buggies, and tops for Model T's. Known as Symposium Studios in the 70's, it was where drawing, painting, sculpting, pottery, and art history classes were taught. The following decade it became the "Prairie Clay Company" offering pottery classes, supplying clay and rented studio spaces.
In 1986, it became a co-operative, and 587 Clifton Street became "Clifton Studios".
The Clifton Gallery is opened spring and winter for open house and sales - http://www.cliftonstudios.ca
Most of our members work in clay, but we have a designer, painters, and other media artists as well. Some artists do commission work.
