Join the Executive Director of The Old Schoolhouse Arts Centre, Illana Hester, for an "Ask Me Anything" session on Oct 13th at 11:00 am Pacific Standard Time. Illana Hester (she/her) is the Executive Director of The Old School House Arts Centre located in the rural area of Qualicum Beach, BC on Vancouver Island and is a medium-sized arts institution. She is grateful to be living and working on the traditional and unceded territory of the Qualicum First Nation and Coast Salish, whose relationship with the land continues to this day.

Illana is also involved in island-wide initiatives that connect island arts councils with digital strategy, the next project will be a help desk for artists and arts administrators. (www.creativecoast.ca)

Illana is interested in exploring relationships within communities and the capacity to use digital tools to make processes more manageable and more accessible for artists, administrators, and supporters of the arts. She is also striving to reduce silos, and to create a wholistic conversations about the arts throughout the region and beyond - she believes in a modality of co-creation and open-source resource sharing, especially as a tool towards equitability in access to the arts.

She holds an undergraduate degree in Anthropology from UBC and a Masters degree from NYU in Visual Art Administration. She has been on Vancouver Island for just over two years, before which she was working in the NYC contemporary art market, where she worked in both the not-for-profit and for-profit sectors of the arts for 12 years.

The Old Schoolhouse Arts Centre

The Old School House Arts Centre is the bright yellow community arts centre with a big history nestled in the heart of the picturesque community of Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island.

The Old School House is a non-profit charitable organization with three galleries exhibit Vancouver Island talent, and creative educational programming for all ages and abilities are held throughout the year. The music program offers a robust concert series throughout the year featuring an eclectic range of genres from acclaimed musicians.
