About

Get your Groove Thang On at the Stratford Perth Museum on September, 28 at 7:00 pm. This Free event will open with some special guest speakers examining the origins of cross-casting, the drag art form, and gender & cultural diversity on the local stage.

Then it’s time to embrace that floor fever because dancing together is better! Thanks to Destination Stratford, our Silent Disco Dance Party will break through some party beats with light refreshments available for purchase.

This program is intended to celebrate the launch of our "To Thine Own Self" exhibit and audio exploration of the history of cultural and gender inclusivity presented on the Stratford Festival Stages over the past 50 years.

Courtesy of the Stratford Festival Archives, the exhibit features costumes, props, photos and stories from ten productions that made history at the Stratford Festival. Displays will include information on innovative and non-traditional presentations of culture and gender that earned both accolades and raised eyebrows. The exhibit is curated and produced by award-winning theatre artist and museum General Manager, Kelly McIntosh.

So join us for this night of tribute to the 'Self' and be inspired to pop, lock, and flow at our silent disco dance party!

Stratford Perth Museum

The Stratford Perth Museum was incorporated as a not-for-profit in 1997, the museum’s collection dates back to the beginning of the 20th century when the Library Act of 1902 permitted local libraries to collect and display museum collections. The collection has continued to grow over the years and has been housed and exhibited in a number of homes which include Fryfogel Tavern, a factory on King Street in Stratford and the Stratford Normal School, adjacent to the Festival Theatre. In 2008, having outgrown the Stratford Normal School, the Stratford Perth Museum Association purchased its present 7 acres on the old Huron Road. The site is complemented by an 1870 Victorian buff brick home, woodlots, indoor stage, outdoor stage, and trails – a home with room to grow and endless potential to interpret our rich cultural heritage and to deliver indoor and outdoor programming.
