About

Scavenger Loops! Come join Patchbay and EPFC North Collectives for a fun and free exploration of the form of THE LOOP.

What is a Scavenger Loop? A short (5-15 sec) story or sequence that cycles through beginning to end and is created from scavenged sources repurposing sound, film, images, or text. It can be anything YOU make it!

Guided by EPFC NORTH and PATCHBAY, participants will have the opportunity to explore Elm Park using cameras, audio recorders and an assortment of found objects that they will splice together in our LOOP LAB to create a short audiovisual work. EPFC NORTH will guide you into a world of analog filmmaking, where you can learn to splice and dice 16mm footage into a new creation. PATCHBAY will mentor sound creation, using field recording and other audio tricks in learning to soundtrack your loop.

Loops can be saved and taken home and will have the opportunity to be shared/displayed outside the fieldhouse for the duration of Culture Days! Bring a friend (or make one there!) and fuse music, film, and everything in between to create your very own (super) short story!

All ages welcome and no experience necessary! Supplies and materials are included. Feel free to bring materials of your own that you may be curious about! All's fair in the name of THE LOOP. Please RSVP to let us know you're coming.

Organizer

Patchbay Neighborhood Sound Lab

Patchbay Neighborhood Sound Lab is a station where people of all ages and abilities may gather to play music together; to learn and share skills in music technology and creative expression; to discover new ways to listen; and to experiment with music and sound in a supportive environment.

Awarded by the Vancouver Park Board, Patchbay is currently in residence at Elm Park’s fieldhouse.

Stewarding the space are Charlie Cooper and c. o. valenza — composers, performers, and close friends who collaborate on collective sounding and listening practices.

We are excited to bring folks together through curiosity, music, and the sounds of the neighborhood!
