About
Animals dying peacefully of old age is rarely newsworthy, but the death of the last male Northern White Rhino on March 19, 2018 made international headlines. His species is critically endangered with just two others, Najin and Fetu living in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya and are protected round-the-clock by armed guards. Their near extinct status is due to decades of rampant poaching for rhino horn. Although officially listed as Critically Endangered, the northern white rhino is almost certainly extinct in the wild.
In July 2022, a number of students at our community centre have been inspired to create some of their own drawings of the majestic gentle giants and paper horns. In each creation, the students placed ornate bracelets over their paper made horns, adorned with love as a sign that these animals should be protected for their mere presence.
A few images about the paper-made rhino horns are uploaded. They are easy-to-follow creations. All we need is about twenty pieces colorful beads, pipe cleaners and a paper cone.
Through the activity, the benefit for the public is that they will gain a deeper understanding about the importance of raising awareness of the need to protect and maintain healthy ecosystems for wildlife.

Organizer
Ming Yeung
After achieving an 'Artistic Innovation' award in 2019, Ming has continued her ongoing art project 'Art for the World's Endangered Species' through exhibitions and teaching. She has been promoting her style of Chinese painting through exhibitions, teaching classes, artist demonstrations, and interviews in the Lower Mainland since 2002. She is an exceptional artistic person with a very deep commitment to her Chinese Free Style painting style and her unwavering commitment to the world's endangered wildlife species. In 2019, her creation 'Wildlife in the City' was displayed in the Art Column on Number 3 road. The work aims to raise awareness of species at risk for future generations. We protect wildlife because they inspire us.
The most impressive workshop 'Love Our Rhinos' was hosted at the first annual Richmond World Festival in September 2015. The workshop engaged tons of loves from our community to create their beautiful paintings. Unfortunately, the rare northern white rhinos died one by one while her art project progressed. Sudan, the world's last northern white rhino died on March 20, 2018. She was grieving the loss of them.
