About

September 29th is Tutti Day!  The word "Tutti" means "all voices and/or instruments play together." We get together as a Suzuki Community to celebrate Dr. Shinichi Suzuki's October birthday—this year is extra-special as our event happens during Alberta Culture Days. The Tutti Day performance begins at 3:00pm at City Hall (1 Sir Winston Churchill Square, Edmonton, AB). Come hear students of all ages & levels playing Suzuki Repertoire together!

Society for Talent Education -- Suzuki Strings in Edmonton

Founded in 1965, the Society for Talent Education was the first Suzuki Method program in Canada, and one of the first in North America. STE started with two teachers from Dr. Suzuki’s school in Matsumoto, Japan, who with Thomas Rolston, violin teacher at the University of Alberta, comprised the start-up teaching faculty. Soon cello was added, later viola and double bass.

The Suzuki approach is based on the premise that every child has enough innate musical ability to play major works from the standard string repertoire at a high standard if the right kind of environment is provided. Every child has the basic talent. The task of teachers and parents is to “educate that talent.” This is the reason Dr. Suzuki called the movement he founded in Japan in the 1940′s the “Talent Education Movement”.

STE Program

The Society for Talent Education program has two parts – private lessons and group lessons – students attend both a weekly private lesson and a weekly group lesson. We celebrate their journey with concerts and play-ins throughout the year, starting off with Tutti Day every fall.
