About

The Orange Shirt Day Stained Glass Community Art Installation is an art initiative partnership between Wazison Arts and Confederation College and their Negahneewin Student Services.

Throughout the month of August and September, the public is invited to Wazison Arts at 1075 Carrick Street, Thunder Bay, Ontario to participate in a stained glass workshop. During this workshop participants will be led through the entire creation process of making stained glass orange shirts using the Tiffany or copper foil style of stained glass. Each session will be facilitated by Wazison Arts owner Angela Jason, a local Anishinaabe artist from Sheshegwaning First Nation who was recently voted Platinum for art instruction at the 2025 Thunder Bay Community Votes poll. Participants must be 14+ and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Closed toed shoes must be worn in the workshop area and long-sleeved, high necked shirts and long pants are recommended. Any beverages in the workshop space must be in a closed container.

These orange shirt suncatchers will be kept by Wazison Arts to be put on display at Confederation College as part of their September 30th National Day for Truth & Reconciliation/Orange Shirt Day commemorative ceremonies. These orange shirts will be on display for the month of October. After the display has concluded the shirts will be collected by Wazison Arts and participants will be informed that they can come to 1075 Carrick Street and collect their suncatcher. Suncatchers can also be shipped to anyone located outside of Thunder Bay.

The price is $45 to participate in making a suncatcher. There is no charge to view the display at Confederation College on or after September 30th. Due to limited capacity it is recommended that anyone interested in participating in making a suncatcher contact Wazison Arts either by email or social media to reserve their spot. You can also pay online via www.wazisonarts.ca

Groups larger than 6 are welcome but need to contact Angela to arrange a special time.
