Make & see dance instantly in this lab-style dance school designed to:

1) amplify the perfectly beautiful natural dance already within you, and

2) bring that dance to the centre stage.

SCHOOL OF NATURAL DANCERS (SND) meets to workshop dance first Sundays monthly.

Locations are varied to give dancers of ANY ABILITY the chance to develop their artistry to suit ANY LOCATION.

SUNDAY OCTOBER 1, 2023 will see SND meet @ Cresecent Arts Centre, 525 Wardlaw Ave., 5pm-9pm

Participants are given the guidance, opportunity and platform to formally SHOW one’s own naturally-formed dance art, SEE the dances of others and LEARN from the experience — and thereby enhance their dance practice.

The principle of NONCHOREOGRAPHY guides us as we observe, video document and present our emergent dance forms … instantly & naturally.

All abilities welcomed and valued.

PLAN:

Arrival … Ian MOZDZEN will greet at door beginning at 4:50pm.

- to begin at 5pm

- determine the setting(s) for the dance

- begin solo dance studies (timed; for example, 2 minutes, 4 minutes, etc.)

- discuss & introduce variations

- more studies.

Break as required.

Longer dance studies (solo & duet) to end of session.

Video captured will be shared with participants via online methods.

Video can be used for further study, portfolio building and additional sharing for self-promotion.

NOTE: Please bring a dance “costume” to the session. What best suits your dance?

SND is an evolution of INSTANT DANCE WORKSHOP, which was offered monthly January-May 2023 @ Prairie Circus Arts.

It is also an evolution of 3 public showings of “lab” dance by an ensemble of Winnipeg dancers: SILENT … LAB DANCE (Apr, Jun & July 2022).

Independent Dancers

Independent Dancers are motivated to produce dance independently; in solo, ensemble, collaborated and partnered contexts. They seek to push dance beyond any single category of “dance” and establish the dancer as THE artist of their own movement. Over the past year (2022-2023) Independent Dancers have orchestrated over 20 presentations of new dance. Partners have included The Gas Station Arts Centre, Crescent Arts Centre, aceartinc., Prairie Circus Arts, Winnipeg Public Library, numerous independent artists and numerous independent dancers. Independent Dancers have also led numerous workshops of Instant Dance and laboratory dance presentations. Independent Dancers appeared in 2022 Culture Days: IN/OUT DANCE SERIES I, Dance for Lunch @ Millennium Library Park. Independent Dancers is minded by iansmoznewdance.blogspot.com, the repository for the new dance of iansmoz, a creative artist whose presence has been of-demand for decades and is a prolific producer of performance experiences. Independent dancers orchestrate the upcoming SCHOOL OF NATURAL DANCERS (Sept 2023 begin, Oct 2023 in Culture Days) and NEW DANCE MONTHLY.
